Our Mission

We are one of Australia's five learned academies, a values-led, independent, non-government, not-for-profit organisation with over 900 independent STEM experts who make up our fellowship. Our mission is to provide evidence-based advice on how to achieve sustainable solutions using STEM expertise to positively impact and solve big issues facing our nation.

Overview

We seek a collaborative and dynamic leader to execute our communications and engagement strategy, advancing our impact and position as a trusted national authority and commentator on issues informed by applied science, technology and engineering.

The ideal candidate will have an established track record in crafting and executing strategic communications, with a focus on values-driven leadership, team cohesion, and strong psychological safety. They will also have 10+ years experience leading strategic communication campaigns at a national level that demonstrate impact, skill, creativity and a deep understanding of media relations and issues management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Crafting and executing strategic communications to advance our impact and position as a trusted national authority and commentator on issues informed by applied science, technology and engineering.
  • Liaising with our Fellows, key stakeholders, media and ATSE staff, particularly the CEO and President, in a fast-paced and hands-on role that is strategic and leads a talented team of communications and events specialists.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven track record in strategic communications, with a focus on values-driven leadership, team cohesion, and strong psychological safety.
  • 10+ years experience leading strategic communication campaigns at a national level that demonstrate impact, skill, creativity and a deep understanding of media relations and issues management.
  • Influencing and communication skills to enable fruitful professional relationships.
  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • A knack for influential storytelling.
  • Experience managing budgets to achieve financially sustainable events.
