Governance and Access to Information Officer Role

The role of the Governance and Access to Information Officer is crucial in providing guidance, advice, and support to staff on governance matters.

This includes the management of policies, staff delegations, Code of Conduct, Legislative Compliance Registers, and public access to Council information according to the Governance Information (Public Access) Act.

You will provide professional customer service to the public and internal staff while ensuring public access to documents in accordance with relevant legislation.

In addition, you will use your specialist knowledge to make determinations, recommendations, and prepare correspondence related to document access applications.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A Certificate III qualification in Business Administration, Recordkeeping, or a related field OR demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role, combined with ongoing professional development
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff and the public
  • Knowledge of local government legislation and the structure, process, and functions of local government
  • Experience in interpreting and applying the GIPA Act and relevant PPIP Act in a public sector environment, including the preparation of documents and correspondence for determinations and reviews
  • Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
