About the Role:

This leadership position involves providing high-quality coding of inpatient episodes, applying detailed specialist clinical coding knowledge across various clinical specialties, and mentoring junior staff. You will also work closely with different levels of staff to provide accurate and up-to-date information on clinical coding and associated reimbursement.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality coding of inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM classification and 3M Australian Grouping and Coding Applications software.
  • Apply detailed specialist clinical coding knowledge across a broad range of clinical specialties in a tertiary hospital setting.
  • Mentor and resource junior Health Information Managers/Clinical Coders.
  • Work closely with varying levels of staff to provide accurate and up-to-date information and advice on clinical coding, DRG allocation, and associated reimbursement.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of comprehensive coding education to staff.
  • Contribute to the internal coding auditing program, promoting quality coding and accurate DRG allocation.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Successful completion of a clinical coding course approved by HIMAA, including a minimum of 5 years unsupervised coding experience in a tertiary public healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior Coding or Leadership role.
  • Excellent clinical coding and auditing skills, as well as knowledge of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs).
  • Eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
