Job Opportunity

The Extended Term Consultant will provide expertise in environmental management to support a growing environment program in the Pacific region.

Program Overview

The Pacific program has over 150 projects covering various sectors including social development, energy and infrastructure, fisheries, agriculture and natural resource management, rural development, social protection, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of World Bank-supported programs in the East Asia and Pacific region with a focus on climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Provide technical leadership on components or activities offering cost-effective climate adaptation solutions.
  • Serve as a focal point for teams in the East Asia and Pacific region on opportunities for leveraging climate adaptation and resilience finance.
  • Provide technical expertise on nature-based solutions to be integrated into the technical design of the ENV program.
  • Support country clients on areas such as fisheries, coastal zone management, landscape management, resilience, tourism, etc.
  • Contribute to regular and ad-hoc reporting on climate adaptation internally and externally.
  • Lead and/or contribute to substantive research and analytical tasks relevant to strengthening the climate resilience of the Pacific ENV operations portfolio.
  • Support policy dialog with governments and other stakeholders related to climate resilience solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree in environment or natural resource management, economics, environmental science or policy, agriculture, engineering, fisheries or forest management, climate change or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of full-time professional experience in the natural resources, environment, fisheries and/or agricultural field.
  • Sound knowledge of World Bank operational policies, processes and procedures.
  • Good analytical and numeracy skills.
