Research Associate in Theoretical Quantum Mechanics

We are seeking an accomplished researcher to join our cutting-edge research group at the University of Melbourne. As a key team member, you will play a pivotal role in a groundbreaking industry-funded project aimed at establishing a workflow for high-throughput generation of accurate ab initio reference benchmarks.
- Develop sophisticated automated workflows using Python scripting to automate job preparation, submission, analysis, and visualisation for high-throughput quantum chemistry calculations.
- Conduct rigorous wavefunction calculations on high-performance computer clusters to generate ab initio reference benchmarks.
- Collaborate with our industry partner to analyse data and contribute to the preparation of research publications and grant applications.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students within the research group.
- Pursue internationally competitive research in theoretical quantum mechanics, resulting in publications in highly reputable journals.
The successful candidate will possess a strong background in quantum mechanics, with expertise in theory and application, as well as a commitment to conducting accurate wavefunction calculations on high-performance computing clusters.
You may be a great fit if you possess a PhD (or near completion) in Theoretical Quantum Mechanics or a related discipline, have experience in developing and/or applying quantum-chemical wavefunction methods to molecular systems, demonstrate an aptitude for research with a sound publication record commensurate with experience, possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English, exhibit strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects, and have expertise in machine learning and/or programming (highly desirable).
