Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the organization in its mission to promote the unique culture of Torres Strait Islanders

  • Work closely with governments and Indigenous communities, organizations, and individuals at national, state, territory, and regional levels
  • Build collaborative relationships with Indigenous people in the Torres Strait region
  • Manage infrastructure programs and promote economic development in the region

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, or finance
  • Private sector experience is desirable
  • Impeccable track record in executive roles and senior strategic and operational management experience
  • Strong understanding of legislation and key policy issues relevant to the Torres Strait Regional Authority and the Torres Strait region

About the Role:

The Chief Executive Officer is appointed by the Minister for Indigenous Australians with the agreement of the Torres Strait Regional Authority Board. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to work closely with the private sector to promote economic development in the region and experience in managing infrastructure programs.

This is an Affirmative Measure – Indigenous position under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 and is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates. The position is also Identified, signifying that the role has a strong involvement in matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
