Senior Youth Detention Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the youth detention centre in accordance with youth justice philosophy, legislation, procedures and standards.
  • Oversee daily operations, management and supervision of young people in centre-wide activities and programs.
  • Foster a culture and philosophy of frontline service delivery, cooperation, teamwork, high quality people management and commitment to excellence.
  • Implement quality assurance mechanisms for monitoring and continuous improvement of services to detained young people.
  • Develop culturally appropriate practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people.
  • Establish partnerships with government and non-government organisations to improve outcomes for detained young people.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to youth detention staff to improve operational services.

Deliverables:

  • Establish systems and practices for effective coordination and delivery of youth detention services.
  • Support development and implementation of initiatives for quality service delivery and improved outcomes for young people.
  • Provide input into reviews of youth detention policy and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strategic leadership and management skills.
  • Experience working in youth detention or related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to implement change and innovation.
  • Culturally sensitive and aware.
