Accounts Officer Job Description

We are seeking a reliable accounts officer to join our payroll team. The accounts officer plays an integral part of the administration team and is primarily responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Maintaining accurate records within debtor/creditor databases.
  2. Developing an in-depth understanding of our company's products/services and processes;
  3. Coordinating information and correspondence regarding the purchase, sale, and/or freight of fuel with relevant stakeholders;
  4. Verifying internal driver and stock records against customer delivery documents;
  5. Regularly reviewing debtor statements, following up on any outstanding payments and maintaining a record of debtor activity;
  6. Ensuring accurate invoicing of services/products based on customer agreements/pricing;
  7. Daily reconciliation of bank statements against accounts system, ensuring appropriate receipts are issued;
  8. Accurately coding and entering invoices, verifying invoice details against purchase records and highlighting any discrepancies;
  9. Processing creditor payments as required, adhering to company payment policy;
  10. Reconciling creditor statements monthly, following up on any queries or discrepancies;

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong administration skills, including intermediate Microsoft Office skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and manage expectations;
  • Demonstrated track record in an accounts role;
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity, equal employment opportunity and workplace health and safety;
  • Experience and knowledge of MYOB;

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in freight/logistics management;
  • Knowledge of the fuel industry;

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field;
  • Professional certification in accounting (e.g. CPA, CA);
  • Minimum 2 years experience in accounts payable and/or accounts receivable;
  • Proficiency in MYOB or other accounting software;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills;
