Principal Planner - Development Assessment

Central Highlands Regional Council is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Planner to lead our Development Assessment team. As a key member of our planning team, you will be responsible for managing and reviewing development applications, providing expert advice to Council members and stakeholders, and contributing to strategic planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and review development applications, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies.
  • Provide expert advice to Council members and stakeholders on complex planning concepts and matters.
  • Contribute to Council's strategic planning initiatives, focusing on business improvement processes.
  • Develop and mentor the planning team to deliver high-quality work, complying with statutory timeframes and Council policies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in development assessment, with a strong background in urban and regional planning.
  • Proven track record of managing and reviewing complex development applications.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work with high-level customers.
  • Experience in leading a team and developing strategic goals.
  • Ability to operate in politically sensitive environments.
