About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Design Manager to lead our Womenswear design team at Kmart Group. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for driving the creative direction of our Womenswear ranges and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver commercial and customer-focused product ranges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Design Team: Oversee a team of 16 designers and guide them to deliver exceptional work, impacting the creativity and efficiency of the entire Womenswear design process.
  • Strategic Product Development: Strategically build ranges that resonate with our target audience and achieve commercial success, driving sales and profitability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including Buyers, DMMs, and the CMO, to ensure a seamless product journey from concept to store shelves.
  • Trend Identification and Implementation: Identify, interpret, and implement global trends and market insights to add value through design and sales, aligning with Kmart's brand handwriting and taste level.
  • Visual Communication: Visually articulate and effectively communicate the direction for the season, supporting the Merchandise team to create commercial, customer-focused, co-ordinated product ranges.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve the Trend process, managing the end-to-end design process for womenswear and coaching the team to deliver outstanding results.
Requirements
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience in leading high-performing teams and developing a culture of excellence.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of commercial product and retail operations, with the ability to drive sales and profitability.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Design Expertise: Strong experience in developing co-ordinated ranges and forecasting commercial trends, with a keen eye for design and a deep understanding of Kmart's brand handwriting.
