Green Space Maintenance Specialist

Mitchell Shire is undergoing a period of significant growth and development in Victoria, just 40 minutes north of Melbourne. The region boasts stunning natural beauty and rich history.

  • We are seeking an experienced Green Space Maintenance Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis.
  • The role involves maintaining public open spaces through tasks such as pruning, planting, mulching, mowing, brush cutting, installing irrigation systems, and cleaning and enhancing main streets.

This is a permanent opportunity with a fortnightly RDO. You will be working in an area with rapid population growth, with Mitchell Shire forecast to reach 221,636 residents by 2046.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be highly motivated and passionate about horticulture, with a proven track record in the field. You will contribute to a positive work culture and be required to obtain a Working with Children Check prior to commencement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain public green spaces, including parks and gardens, to ensure they remain safe and attractive for the community.
  • Perform a range of tasks each day, including pruning, planting, mulching, mowing, brush cutting, installing irrigation systems, and cleaning main streets.
  • Work collaboratively with the existing crew to deliver high-quality results and meet deadlines.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the appearance and functionality of public green spaces.
Requirements:
  • Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Landscape Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in green space maintenance, preferably in a local government setting.
  • Strong knowledge of plant species, soils, and gardening practices.
  • Able to lift heavy loads, work at heights, and operate machinery safely.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to obtain a Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
