The role of a volunteer social companion is to provide emotional support and friendship to an older person in need. This involves visiting with the client on a regular basis, engaging in conversations, and sharing experiences.

As a volunteer social companion, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the life of an older person, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness. You will also have the chance to develop new skills, such as active listening and empathy, while gaining valuable experience in providing support services.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a friendly and approachable individual who is comfortable with the idea of visiting with someone in their own home. You will need to be able to commit to regular visits, which can be weekly or fortnightly, at a time that suits you, between Monday and Sunday, 9am-4pm.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Visit with the client on a regular basis to provide emotional support and friendship.
  • Engage in conversations and share experiences with the client.
  • Provide companionship and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Requirements:
  • 18 years or older.
  • National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
