Job Title

This role is a key part of the Admin Experience team, responsible for designing and evolving scalable backend systems that support admin experiences across various customers.

  • Leading the design and evolution of scalable backend systems to meet the needs of large teams and organisations.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to understand multi-team admin needs and turn them into scalable, reliable solutions.
  • Mentoring and supporting other engineers in sharing feedback and building a strong culture of technical growth.
  • Shaping admin user experiences by exploring product ideas, testing technical possibilities, and building solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Helping teams navigate ambiguity, identifying trade-offs, and guiding technical direction.
  • Championing operational excellence by resolving tricky backend issues and improving observability.
  • Guiding architecture decisions for high-volume, high-data services to ensure robustness, scalability, and enterprise-readiness.
  • Bringing fresh thinking by staying up-to-date with industry trends and sharing ideas that improve how we build at scale.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Deep backend expertise in JVM-based languages such as Java or Kotlin.
  • Experience in designing and leading backend strategies for large-scale distributed systems, optimised for availability, performance, and reliability.
  • A systems-thinking approach, using sound judgment to drive clarity, navigate trade-offs, and align cross-functional teams on complex challenges.
  • Technical leadership skills, mentoring engineers, raising engineering standards, and championing scalable, maintainable practices across multiple teams.
  • The ability to work seamlessly with senior stakeholders, shaping long-term technical direction and influencing product strategy through strong partnerships.
  • Disciplined software development skills, including thoughtful architecture and testing, documentation, and clean code practices.
  • Strong communication skills, translating evolving product goals into clear technical strategies and executable milestones.
  • Bonus: Hands-on experience with Protocol Buffers and AWS services such as DynamoDB, SNS, and SQS.
