PhD Scholarship: Immersive Regenerative Tourism Experiences in Aotearoa

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD candidate to join our research team at Griffith University. The successful applicant will be part of a five-year, $NZ9.5 million research programme funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Endeavour Fund (New Zealand).
The research project, He karapitipitinga mariko – Immersive regenerative tourism experiences in Aotearoa, aims to explore the impacts of AR/VR technologies on tourist experiences in Aotearoa New Zealand. The successful applicant will work closely with the research team to investigate the effects of these technologies on different aspects of the visitor experience.
The PhD candidate will be based at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and will also spend time at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. The successful applicant will be supported to apply for membership of the Griffith Institute for Tourism (GIFT) and will be encouraged to join the GIFT Climate Change Action research cluster.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on the impacts of AR/VR technologies on tourist experiences in Aotearoa New Zealand
- Work closely with the research team to investigate the effects of these technologies on different aspects of the visitor experience
- Collect and analyse data to inform the research project
- Present research findings at conferences and workshops
- Completed a bachelors degree with honours equivalent to first class honours or a Masters degree (AQF Level 9) incorporating a significant research component
- Strong research skills and experience in social science methodologies and methods
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and writing skills
