About This Opportunity

Yass High School is an inclusive and comprehensive school located close to Canberra. The school has a diverse student body with approximately 585 students in 2025, including 11% Aboriginal students.

The school benefits from strong community relationships and is committed to providing personalized learning pathways for every student. Our programs and facilities are designed to be inclusive and supportive of all students.

We offer a broad curriculum that provides opportunities for post-school study in academic, technological, vocational, and creative fields. Our new STEM building (2021) and school hall (2023) provide state-of-the-art learning technologies.

Our teachers work collaboratively to ensure dynamic course delivery and enriched learning experiences for our students. We have a Trade Centre for vocational courses and an Agriculture farm where students can learn animal management and horticulture skills.

Our Support Unit includes Learning Hub classes and a SLC (Supported Learning Centre). We also offer stage 5 pathways programs to support students transitioning to the workforce.

We strive to create a culture of high expectations and wellbeing, guiding each student to select courses that align with their personal aptitudes, interests, and aspirations. Our rich curriculum is constantly evolving to remain relevant to today's world and foster critical thinking and teamwork skills.

Our graduates leave Yass High School equipped with the skills and experiences necessary to care for their communities, seize opportunities with confidence, and make positive contributions to the world beyond school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the faculty in delivering high-quality, evidence-informed, and inclusive teaching and learning programs.
  • Manage a team with diverse teaching experience, demonstrating capacity to collaborate and inspire teachers to adopt innovative pedagogy.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the executive team to drive continuous improvement and lead the school towards excellence across all domains.

Requirements:

  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning, and classroom practice.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and student welfare with ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
  • Educational leadership skills to build capacity and manage performance of individuals and teams.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
