We are currently seeking an experienced Safety, Health, Environment and Training Superintendent to join our team at South Walker Creek Mine, near Coppabella. Reporting to the Project Manager – Mining, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining sound business relationships, leading by example, and implementing innovative safety systems within a mining environment.

This role is offered on a 5:2/4:3 roster and is available immediately. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our operations and contribute to a safer and healthier work environment.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Attend project management meetings to provide technical advice to project leaders, enabling them to mitigate risks associated with their work and that of their subordinates.
  • Attend meetings with clients to discuss project progress and address any concerns they may have.
  • Provide technical input into investigation reports and lead significant investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop content, provide input, and deliver SHET information and training, including inductions on SHET issues, to ensure a high level of awareness and understanding among team members.
  • Offer advice, education, and coaching to project leaders to improve the quality and consistency of SHET activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Prepare reports in relation to SHET matters, providing timely and accurate information to support informed decision-making.

Key Capability Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Health and Safety and at least five years of experience in a SHET leadership role in mining.
  • Possession of G1, 8 & 9 certifications, with G2 and G7 being beneficial, and Standard 11 certification.
  • Significant experience working on Open Cut Coal Mines in Queensland, across Production and Maintenance.
  • Ability to understand and apply relevant legislation, risk management principles, and facilitate risk assessments.
  • Experience in auditing, data analysis, reporting, and incident investigation.
  • Ability to contribute to the capability development of safety and health personnel through coaching and mentoring.

The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
