Senior Mental Health Leader Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Professional to lead our mental health services across South Australia.

This is a unique opportunity for a professional to contribute at the highest level to a system committed to prevention, early intervention, equity, and excellence in care.

About the Role:

  • The Senior Mental Health Professional will be responsible for promoting continuous improvement in mental health service delivery, monitoring standards of care, and safeguarding the rights of consumers and carers.
  • The position will oversee the treatment of voluntary and involuntary patients, the use of restrictive practices, and the administration of mental health legislation.
  • It will provide high-level policy advice, issue standards for patient care, and inspect public and private mental health facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across safety and quality, policy and legislation, and suicide prevention initiatives.
  • Work closely with clinicians, consumers, carers, government agencies, and non-government organisations to implement reforms and strengthen services.

Requirements:

  • Hold a Fellowship or eligibility to become a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate leadership skills at a senior level in complex, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Have extensive knowledge of contemporary mental health issues.
  • Proven expertise in policy development, service improvement, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and communication skills combined with clinical credibility and a collaborative leadership style.
