ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Psychiatrist is an independent statutory officer responsible for promoting continuous improvement in mental health service delivery, monitoring standards of care, and safeguarding the rights of consumers and carers. Key responsibilities include overseeing treatment options, use of restrictive practices, and administration of mental health legislation.

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Lead at a senior level in complex environments
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of contemporary mental health issues
  • Proven expertise in policy development, service improvement, and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong influencing, negotiation and communication skills combined with clinical credibility and a collaborative leadership style

To be successful, candidates should hold a Fellowship or be eligible for Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent). A strong track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and driving reforms in mental health is essential.
