As a Community Engagement Specialist, you will possess substantial local community experience in North Queensland, with strong ties and understanding of local communities, landholders, stakeholders, and social networks. This role requires you to either reside in or have the capacity to travel to the designated region, serving as Powerlink's representative for community relations. A significant portion of your responsibilities will involve on-site engagement with communities, landholders, and other stakeholders, necessitating travel to nearby regional areas as needed.

You will play a crucial role in fostering strong, sustainable relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and landholders. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining respectful, collaborative relationships with communities and landholders, in line with Powerlink's Community Engagement Strategy and Land Access Protocol.
  • Creating and executing targeted community engagement strategies in partnership with internal stakeholders to strengthen relationships within operational areas.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks related to community relations, land access, and stakeholder engagement through strategic planning and collaboration.
  • Contributing to the development of standards and procedures that support Powerlink's community engagement framework, ensuring alignment with stakeholder needs.
  • Staying updated on best practices in community engagement, landholder relations, and land access, and promoting these practices throughout the organization.
  • Representing Powerlink in community settings, advocating for community interests and nurturing positive relationships.

Your qualifications

  • A degree in Environmental or Social Science, Communications, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience in community and/or stakeholder relations for infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in mentoring and guiding others in the technical and professional aspects of community and stakeholder relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to forge lasting relationships, negotiate effectively, and manage community issues on behalf of an organization.
  • Familiarity with data management software, databases, and GIS systems.
  • Understanding of the legislative frameworks that govern Powerlink's land acquisition and operations.
  • Proven ability to work in diverse environments, including remote or rural communities.
