Northrop Grumman is a leader in providing innovative aerospace and defense products. Our Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) offers launch systems capabilities to serve national security, military, civil, and commercial customers.

We are seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Ground Hardware Engineer for the Ground Terminal and Infrastructure Department at our field site in Alice Springs, AU. This position can be filled at a level 3 or 4 and requires a two-year commitment with a comprehensive overseas compensation package including relocation assistance.

About the Role

The Ground Hardware Engineer provides operation, maintenance, and repair for ground terminal architecture at customer sites. The successful candidate will work as part of a highly skilled team ensuring the availability of critical mission systems. They will leverage their experience to provide time-critical observation, assessment, repair, and monitoring of complex communications systems and data links for sustained operation.

  • Provide daily activities and after-hours response for technical operations, maintenance, and repair of end-to-end communications capabilities
  • Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of communications systems and components for ground to space communication links
  • Craft and execute preventative maintenance plans for large antenna platforms and associated equipment
  • Apply technical knowledge to determine equipment malfunctions and restore mission critical operations at system, sub-system, line replaceable unit, and board levels
  • Operate, maintain, repair/replace, and install various types of electrical equipment and devices related to satellite communications

The role requires proficiency in sound technical writing, documentation of equipment failures, status reports, and assisting in developing concepts of operations (CONOPs). The successful candidate must also demonstrate initiative in daily activities and carry a professional attitude towards customers and colleagues.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 5 years of engineering/technical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possess and demonstrates work-related experience with the operation, maintenance, and repair of RF Communication systems
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance & SCI Access, and ability to obtain/pass CI Poly Examination

We offer a competitive salary range estimated to be between $110,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, we provide a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
