
Aboriginal Family Support Worker

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the role of Aboriginal Child Protection Caseworker. This position involves working sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children, or young people, with the primary goal of keeping families together so that children can thrive at home.
The ideal candidate will be confident, curious, and resilient, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships. A relevant diploma or degree is preferred, however candidates without formal qualifications may be considered if they have at least two years of experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and families.
This is an Identified role, open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. Verification of Aboriginality is required, confirming your descent as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, self-identification as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and acceptance by the community.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Work with families to address safety and wellbeing concerns and provide appropriate support through home visits.
- Develop safety plans and conduct risk assessments to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
- Manage complex cases involving high needs and high-risk clients and their families.
- Participate in court processes, including preparing documents and attending hearings.
- Engage in individual and group supervision sessions to ensure ongoing professional development.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will require:
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- A valid driver's license and a current Working with Children clearance.
- Verification of Aboriginality, confirming your descent as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, self-identification as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and acceptance by the community.
