Metro is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Specialist to join our External Affairs & Strategic Communications team. In this role, you will work closely with senior stakeholders to protect and enhance Metro's reputation through proactive communication strategies and crisis management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage high-level external stakeholder meetings, including with government departments and ministerial offices, to maintain positive relationships and mitigate risk.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to identify and generate positive stories aligned with Metro's strategic objectives.
  • Provide senior-level advice on media and stakeholder issues, and handle crisis communications to protect Metro's reputation.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to generate positive stories and leverage them across multiple channels.
  • Contribute to daily media monitoring, executive briefings, and reporting to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement social media content and reporting.

Requirements

  • Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Over 5 years of experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or corporate affairs, with a focus on issues and crisis management.
  • Significant experience in a 24/7 rostering environment and the ability to respond to issues outside of regular hours.
  • Ability to influence and develop strong relationships with diverse stakeholders across a range of interest groups.
  • Strong English and grammar skills, with the ability to communicate effectively under pressure.
  • Experience in transport, infrastructure, or government is advantageous but not essential.
