Job Summary:

The key role of a Research Specialist involves coordinating the formation and negotiation of research contracts with various stakeholders, playing a pivotal part in supporting Deakin's leading research.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare contracts with other universities, research institutes, industry partners, and government groups.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with partners to ensure efficient contract management and reputation protection.
  • Project manage the review, drafting, and execution of contracts for timely completion.
  • Provide recommendations on risk management and compliance regarding policies and procedures.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate competitive research agreements ensuring contractual terms comply with University requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or extensive relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and management expertise; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in commercial principles including risk analysis and project costing within a university or research organisation.
  • Established track record in providing strategic advice on contracts to researchers, including IP management, publication, and distribution of risk and liability.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills and demonstrable performance in a role requiring high attention to detail.
