PhD Research Opportunity in Cultural History

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD candidate to undertake research on the cultural significance of the Asterix comic book series in post-war societies.

  • The successful candidate will conduct an in-depth analysis of the series' translations and their impact on different national contexts, including Canada, the US, and the UK.
  • This project will involve researching newspaper articles, fan mail, and contemporary scholarly writing to explore the series' attractions for readers and the meanings given to it.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to our understanding of the sociocultural history of the post-war period in these countries and to examine how translations can shape cultural narratives.

Candidate Requirements

To be eligible for this PhD scholarship, applicants must have a proven track record in research fieldwork and historical methodology.

Australian (or equivalent international) honours or master's degree with a significant research component and first-class honours/h1 awarded are highly valued in our assessment process.
