Job Title: Seasonal Fire Tower Operator

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Fire Tower Operator to join our team and assist with protecting the native state forests on the beautiful South Coast of NSW. The role involves working in a seasonal capacity during the summer fire season, with workloads varying depending on weather conditions.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Detection of fire location
  • Determining fire behaviour
  • Reporting fire information to the duty officer and fire response staff
  • Four-wheel driving to access tower locations
  • Using radios and other communication equipment

Requirements:

  • Navigational and map reading skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate on the radio
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's licence
  • Own a serviceable four-wheel drive vehicle with comprehensive insurance to be able to reach fire tower locations (vehicle usage allowance is applicable)
  • Local knowledge or transferable skills in forestry and farming is highly desirable
  • A great attitude and willingness to adhere to our core values and behaviours

Desirable Skills:

  • Good observation skills, geographical knowledge, mapping and navigation skills would be highly advantageous
  • Experience in bushfire fighting and fire behaviour knowledge
  • Current first aid certificate
