About the Role

The Finance Officer role at the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat is a diverse and challenging position that requires a strong background in accounting and finance. As a key member of the Diocese's administrative team, you will be responsible for managing financial accounts, payroll, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage financial accounts, including accounts payable and receivable, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Process fortnightly payroll, including PAYG and superannuation, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Complete regulatory compliance requirements, such as BAS and Quarterly returns, and ensure accurate and timely submission.
  • Undertake parish banking, statement reconciliations, and other financial administrative duties as required.
  • Support the preparation of annual Parish budgets and financial plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation registers and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience in a similar Bookkeeping or Finance Officer role, preferably in a non-profit or Catholic sector organization.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly detail-oriented and accurate, with a strong focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Relevant IT skills, including a working knowledge of Reckon, Xero, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Tertiary qualification in accounting or a related field is highly desirable, but not essential.
