This vacancy is an opportunity to join Legal Aid NSW as an Aboriginal Field Officer, working in our Newcastle office. The primary purpose of the role is to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are informed of their legal options and assist in addressing their unmet legal needs.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and committed team member with experience in responding to the complex needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. You should be able to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds and with relevant stakeholders and service delivery partners.

The essential requirements for this role include being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, being willing to do a Criminal Record Check, having a current Working with Children Check, and having a valid Driver's Licence.

The role will involve assisting solicitors and administrative staff to develop, co-ordinate, facilitate and implement outreach services, community legal education sessions and engagement with Aboriginal communities. You will also assist the Solicitor in Charge, Office Manager, Regional Program Co-ordinators and Solicitors on local community issues that may arise.
