About the Role:

Austin Health is a leading provider of tertiary health services, education, and research across multiple campuses in northeast Melbourne. The organization is renowned for its cutting-edge research and specialist work in various fields, including cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health, and rehabilitation.

The Mary Guthrie House - Neuropsychiatry Inpatient Unit is a multi-component program located at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre in Kew. It specializes in the recovery of individuals under 65 years old with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) or neurodegenerative condition and associated mental illness.

The unit has several programs, including:

  • Heath Unit: A 10-bed mental health assessment unit that works with consumers, families, and carers towards specialized assessment, consultation, and recommendations for recovery pathways
  • Wattle Protea Unit: A 20-bed secure extended care program that provides slow-stream recovery for consumers, families, and carers
  • Step 2: A 3-bed transitional community unit that supports consumers, families, and carers in transitioning from hospital to community

This role involves providing specialized behavior support to consumers with acquired brain injury or neurodegenerative illness and mental health conditions. The Clinical Neuropsychologist demonstrates expert knowledge and skills in Acquired Brain Injury, Neurodegenerative illness, and Mental Health, including behavioral assessment and interventions in the context of slow-stream neurobehavioral rehabilitation.
