About the Role
The Youth Worker, Out of Home Care is to provide care and/or support to children and young people, in out of home care and/or living within at risk families. The care and support provided by Youth Workers will enhance opportunities for the young person to participate in age-appropriate activities to support development of positive self-regard, to support community inclusion, to support positive relations with family of origin and to contribute to placement stability.

Role Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement meaningful activities with the young person to promote their growth and well-being.
  • Collaborate with a cohesive team to help young people achieve their personal goals and objectives.
  • Promote good hygiene and nutrition practices among the young people.
  • Maintain accurate daily case notes, handle administrative tasks, and prepare incident reports as required.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working hours, including sleepover, weekend, and awake shifts.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Certificate IV or higher qualification in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Youth Services, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Current National Police Check.
  • Current Blue Card.
  • Current Licensed Care Service (LCS).
  • Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
  • Completion of Hope and Healing Framework training.
  • Two recent referees of supervisors.
  • Ability to work shift work on a fortnightly basis, including sleepover shifts.

  • Ability to engage children and youth in purposeful activities to enhance life skills.
  • Proactive communicator and relationship builder with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Utilize trauma-informed approach in understanding child development and behavior.
  • Capability to recognize the role of family dynamics, particularly in child protection contexts.
  • Supportive of youth in activities and foster independent living skills.
  • Effectively contribute to team outcomes.
  • Ability to operate autonomously while seeking guidance as needed.
  • Able to respond to crises flexibly, considering risk and compliance.
  • Understanding of provision of care in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999.
