About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team on a 12-month, fixed-term contract.

This role will be based in Brisbane, with a hybrid working arrangement. As part of our General Counsel's Office, you will be responsible for providing corporate, commercial, and financial services legal advice and governance advice to all of our businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review marketing material to ensure legal compliance.
  • Provide corporate legal, commercial, and governance advice to all of our businesses.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts.
  • Advise on insurance products and documentation.
  • Interpret statutes and provide advice on legislative reform impacting our business.
  • Support corporate litigation.
  • Provide legal advice on complaints and potential disputes, including at AFCA.
  • Deliver staff legal training.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent).
  • A current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate – mandatory.
  • Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm.
  • Experience in private practice, providing commercial legal advice.
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial).
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus.
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills.
  • A high level of written and spoken language skills.
