
Wildlife Care Specialist

The role involves daily animal care activities, including admission, rescue, triage, examination, treatment, diet planning, feeding, and release. Strong communication skills are required for interacting with the public, veterinarians, government agencies, etc.
Responsibilities include maintaining hygiene standards, adhering to health and safety protocols, assisting in training and managing volunteers, keeping detailed records, and participating in team meetings and projects.
- Minimum 2 years of post-secondary studies in Biological Sciences or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred
- At least 2 years of wildlife rehabilitation experience
- Basic rehabilitation skills certification from a provincial or international body; advanced skills preferred
Requirements also include knowledge of BC wildlife species' natural history, identification, and behavior, as well as familiarity with provincial and federal wildlife regulations and permits.
This role requires strong teamwork skills, excellent communication skills, and good physical stamina.
- Excellent phone etiquette and public speaking skills
- Ability to handle demanding workloads and long hours
- Ability to work outdoors in various conditions and lift 50 pounds
- Rescue and transport wildlife
- Assist in designing, constructing, and maintaining cages
- Collect supplies and donations as needed
