Lead Water Resources Engineer for Sustainable Mine Operations

As a Senior Water Resources Engineer at WSP, you will play a key role in delivering iconic Mine Water projects and making a lasting impact on the industry. Based in our Brisbane or Perth office, you will be part of a dynamic team that helps clients optimize performance, boost profitability, and operate responsibly.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical guidance and expertise in non-Newtonian dam break assessments.
- Conducting comprehensive rainfall, flow, and flood assessments, including modeling, mapping, flood mitigation design, and risk evaluations.
- Leading water management studies and investigations from pre-feasibility to detailed design.
- Developing and enhancing Mine Water group capability in stormwater management and flood studies.
- Creating hydrological, hydraulic, and probabilistic water balance models to assess surface water/runoff flows, peak flows, and flood risk.
- Designing hydraulic and other water management structures for mine sites.
- Supporting business development activities, developing client relationships, and crafting proposals.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field with a strong focus on hydrology.
- Masters (MSc) degree in hydrology or a related discipline is advantageous.
- Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS suite), hydraulic, flood modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, MIKE), and water balance modeling software (Goldsim).
- CPEng and RPEQ status or relevant experience to work towards accreditation.
- Understanding of non-Newtonian flow conditions and skills related to modeling tailings storage facility dam break assessments.
- Ability to demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent technical writing skills with experience in proposal writing and technical reporting.
We estimate the salary range for this position to be around AU$120,000 - AU$180,000 per annum, depending on your level of experience and qualifications.
