The Senior Specialist Theatre Technician is a key position within the Performing Arts department of Townsville City Council. This role is responsible for supervising staff and administering the theatrical component of the technical unit, providing a high level of service and advice to users of our venues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and administer the technical unit, ensuring the smooth operation of theatrical productions and events.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice to users of our venues, including producers, directors, and performers.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and protocols to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of technical services.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Team Leader to develop and implement technical strategies and plans.
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff, including technicians, assistant technicians, and utility staff.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including producers, directors, and performers.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated high level of leadership and ability to develop and monitor the skills of supporting technicians and assistant technicians.
  • Excellent knowledge of all aspects of lighting, staging, sound, vision, and other technical systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service.
