Instrument Specialist Role

As an Instrument Specialist, you will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of infection control and ensuring the cleanliness and sterility of medical devices.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining cleaning tools and equipment in good condition
  • Restocking cleaning and sterilization supplies and reporting low stock levels
  • Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing reusable medical devices within the theatre and day surgery units
  • Participating in ongoing training and development to enhance your understanding of instrument cleaning, handling, disinfection, and sterilization processes
  • Practicing good housekeeping to maintain a clean and tidy work area
  • Maintaining efficient, standards-based practice to provide quality medical devices for clinical use
  • Performing daily and weekly tests and cleaning as required
  • Keeping accurate and thorough documentation
  • Organizing repair servicing via specified channels, tagging out as necessary

To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate initiative, reliability, and minimal supervision and guidance. You will also require an understanding of Infection Control principles and practices and relevant education in sterilizing technology is desirable.
