About the Role


The Grampians Health Services are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team at the Steele Haughton Unit (Older Persons Acute and Residential Unit). As a specialist in occupational therapy, you will provide evidence-based interventions to support older adults in achieving their goals and improving their overall wellbeing.


This role is suitable for Occupational Therapists with experience working in mental health or those who have many years of post-graduate experience as an Occupational Therapist (in a different area of practice) and are interested in pursuing a career in mental health. You will play a key role in the therapeutic program across the units, contributing to care, treatment and support including discharge planning for consumers.


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement occupation-based therapy programs in a 1:1 and group setting to support older adults in achieving their goals and improving their overall wellbeing.
  • Participate in reducing restrictive interventions and contribute to a safe and supportive environment for consumers.
  • Engage in regular professional supervision, professional development and participate in the Grampians Mental Health and Wellbeing Service Occupational Therapy network activities.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary therapeutic groups program.
  • Provide input and assistance to Clinical Team and Lived and Living Experience Workforce (LLEW) in care planning to support discharge and/or transfer to other appropriate supports and care.
  • Support the multidisciplinary team regarding sensory modulation assessment and interventions to promote wellbeing and recovery, and where appropriate, assist in managing arousal, distress and enabling participation in meaningful occupations.

Salary Package


The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary package, including a base salary of $100,000 per annum, plus benefits such as flexible work arrangements, purchase leave opportunities, and access to staff fitness program.


Required Skills and Qualifications



  • Unrestricted registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA).
  • An approved Degree from a recognised school of Occupational Therapy or other qualifications approved for eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Occupational Therapy (Vic.).
  • 7+ years of post-graduate experience.
