Director of Safety and Environment

Are you a seasoned professional looking to take on a new challenge in safety and environment leadership?

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Safety and Environment to lead our team in shaping and executing a modern safety strategy across our enterprise.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive cultural and operational change in one of Australia's most complex industries. You will be responsible for integrating global and local regulations into fit-for-purpose systems that meet our evolving technical and regulatory obligations.

As the Director of Safety and Environment, you will serve as a key influencer with regulators, government agencies, customer groups, industry partners and our Board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shape and execute a modern safety strategy across our enterprise.
  • Lead and inspire a capable safety team, with five direct reports and oversight of over 30 professionals across governance, assurance, safety engineering and environment.
  • Integrate global and local regulations into fit-for-purpose systems that meet our evolving technical and regulatory obligations.
  • Serve as a key influencer with regulators, government agencies, customer groups, industry partners and our Board.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHSE, Environment or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years' leadership experience in high-risk industries such as defence, construction, aviation, oil & gas or mining.
  • Demonstrated success engaging with regulators, boards and executives.
  • Proven ability to build, lead and embed best-practice frameworks for safety and environmental performance.
  • A hands-on approach to turning around underperforming safety environments.
