About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system.
The three Youth Justice Custodial Precincts in Victoria are managed by the department. Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct comprises two youth justice centres and is located approximately 100 kilometres north of Melbourne. The Parkville Youth Justice Precinct comprises two youth justice centres and is located in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Parkville. The Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct is located in the western suburbs of Melbourne and presents an exciting reform opportunity for Youth Justice Custodial Services (YJCS).
About the role

**In this role, you will**:

- provide leadership and direction toward the delivery of strategic safety and wellbeing initiatives working collaboratively with key partners to ensure a consistent departmental approach
- work collaboratively to identify process and performance gaps and influence senior executives and stakeholders in developing, promoting, implementing and reviewing strategic initiatives that deliver a safety-first culture across the department to improve the overall safety performance of the site
- demonstrate visible safety leadership by providing coaching and mentoring for the site's executive leadership group, frontline leaders and staff in the resolution of complex operational problems such as occupational violence, manual handling, slip/trip and falls incidents that are impacting on the safety and wellbeing performance of the site
- engage with a range of external stakeholders including WorkSafe to facilitate communication, consultation and cooperation to develop a best practice approach to safety and wellbeing across the location.

This role will be located at either the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct, or the Parkville site and may be required to travel to other facilities as required.
About you
- relevant significant industry experience in occupational health and safety management systems
- demonstrated experience in the identification of OHS risks and developing, implementing and evaluating preventative strategies
- demonstrated expertise in consulting with senior leaders and managers in the delivery of key outcomes in health and safety, change management and related workplace improvement initiatives
- demonstrated experience in delivering cultural change in health, safety and wellbeing.

Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
