We are seeking a qualified Recreation Therapist to work with youth ages 12 to 25, employing a relational, empowering, trauma-informed, and equity-focused approach to practice. The successful candidate will help young people develop life skills, improve their mental health, and make positive changes in their lives.

The Recreation Therapist will collaborate with the Integrated Youth Services team and other stakeholders to provide individualized support and create tailored programming that addresses the unique needs of each youth. This may include developing life skills programs, providing mental health education and peer support groups, and organizing cultural and recreational activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Recreation Therapist to join our dynamic team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.   • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each youth.
  • Collaborate with the Integrated Youth Services team, youth, caregivers, and other stakeholders to identify appropriate youth for services and develop treatment goals.
  • Conduct standardized assessments of functioning and life skills.
  • Provide direct service to youth, including facilitating group programming, offering one-on-one support, and connecting youth with community resources.
  • Utilize data to guide care conversations and interventions.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to connect with youth in the community who may benefit from our services.
  • Ensure timely and accurate electronic case documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or Recreation Therapy required.
  • Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NRTRC) required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid training required.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training; or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment required.
  • Brain Story training; or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment required.
  • Mental Health First Aid training; or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment required.
  • Compassion, empathy, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills essential.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, such as youth experiencing mental health challenges or addictions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with guidance when needed.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and verbal and written communication skills necessary.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs and applications required.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability expected.
  • Understanding of servant leadership and community-centricity principles desirable.
