Job Description

This is a challenging opportunity to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of our university's radiation safety management program.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, including the Radiation Safety Act 1975 (WA) and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation (Safeguards) Act 1987 (Cth).

You will act as the designated Radiation Safety Officer and Compliance Officer, overseeing the application and maintenance of radiation safety permits, licenses, and registers for Curtin University.

Key responsibilities include providing expert technical advice, conducting investigations, and leading radiation safety training programs.

Additional duties include supporting the Radiation Safety Committee and Radiation Safety Supervisors in ensuring best practice in radiation management.

To thrive in this role, you will be an effective written communicator with:

  • A relevant degree or qualifications in Science, Engineering, or related fields such as Physics, Materials Management, or Materials Science.
  • Extensive experience, knowledge, and commitment to radiation safety-based practices with demonstrated ability to provide radiation safety management expertise.
  • Radiation Safety qualification(s) as outlined in the Radiation Safety (Qualifications) Regulation and the ability to be registered as a Radiation Safety Officer with the Radiological Council of Western Australia.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to, interpret and apply relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and regulations; and implement best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to use a range of media and strategies to communicate WHS information and knowledge to others in the workplace to influence stakeholders and achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to address a range of radiation safety-related issues.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders within the Curtin community.
