Reducing Pediatric Trauma Variation Through Evidence-Based Care

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to undertake research on trauma care for children and youth in New South Wales (NSW).
Research Objectives- Develop an evidence-based, sustainable intervention to address variations in splenic injury care.
- Test and refine the intervention within pediatric trauma care sites in NSW, producing an implementation strategy for its use across the trauma system.
- Develop a knowledge translation plan to facilitate application of the same to address disparities in pediatric and youth trauma care.
The research will involve mixed methods, including qualitative and quantitative elements, to generate evidence for sustained change in practice.
Supervision- Primary: Dr. Anna Palagyi, Program Lead – Ageing & Health Systems; A/Prof Susan Adams, Pediatric Surgeon; Conjoint Associate Professor, School of Clinical Medicine; Honorary Research Fellow
- Secondary: Professor Julie Brown, Head – Injury Program
- A strong interest in pediatric trauma care, public health, and implementation science applied to health systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with previous publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Autonomy, self-directed learning, and team contribution.
- Prior experience in paediatric and/or trauma care delivery, or related health disciplines.
- Qualitative or mixed methods research experience and publications.
- A relevant first or second-class Honours degree or Masters degree with a substantial research component, or equivalent research experience.
- Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship, or Australian permanent residency.
This is a non-funded PhD opportunity, but the successful candidate will be supported to apply for an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship at UNSW, Sydney, with a Top-Up Scholarship available contingent on successful award.
