Strategic Communications Specialist

Public Sector People has partnered with a local council in Sydney to recruit for a Communications Officer for an initial 4-month contract with the potential for extension.

The Opportunity

In this exciting contract role, you'll play a vital part in developing and implementing strategic communications plans. You'll be responsible for managing media enquiries, crafting engaging content for various audiences, and ensuring clear and consistent messaging across all channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting high-quality media releases, press kits, and other communications materials
  • Managing media enquiries and fostering positive relationships with journalists
  • Developing and implementing engaging content for digital and traditional media platforms
  • Conceiving, developing, implementing, and critically assessing communications and marketing plans
  • Proactively identifying and crafting stories that showcase the organisation's services and achievements
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders across various departments

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to tailor your message to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and public relations
  • Experience working in local government
  • Experience developing and delivering communication campaigns across multiple channels, including digital and traditional media
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines efficiently
  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team
