Job Title: Council Governance Manager

We are seeking an experienced professional to manage and implement governance activities for Council, Committees, Panels, and Authorities. This role is critical in ensuring that governance activities are expertly managed and compliant with legislative requirements.

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team responsible for coordinating and administering Council and Committee meetings, including preparing agendas, reports, and minutes. They will also provide expert advice on complex legislative matters and support the integrity of Council operations through effective complaints management, oversight of confidential matters, and coordination of key electoral and governance processes.

This role involves overseeing Council's forward business program, report review process, Council Member inductions and training, and policy governance. It is essential in maintaining transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in civic leadership. The successful candidate will champion strong relationships across the organisation to ensure reports and matters progress efficiently through Council channels.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Law, Corporate Governance or Company Secretary studies or related field and/or commensurate demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Significant experience in interpretation of legislation and regulation in a Council, Board or Committee environment.
  • Expert knowledge of the Local Government Act and associated legislation.
  • Experience in corporate governance, board meetings or company secretary roles in a regulatory or government environment.
  • Minute taking, preparation of agendas and dissemination of information at a senior level or significantly pressured environment.
