Provision of Clinical Expertise to Asylum Seekers

We acknowledge the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers in rebuilding their lives in Australia. Our organisation provides compassionate, culturally safe, and trauma-informed support to asylum seekers and refugees through our National Immigration Support Service (NISS).
This role involves providing clinical assessments, support, and evidence-based therapy to asylum seekers and refugees. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering clinical expertise to support clients from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds
- Assessing clients' cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and daily living capabilities through formal and informal assessments
- Supporting clients through major life transitions with skill-building and coping strategies through individual and group therapy
- Tracking client progress and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure ongoing, effective support and care
This position requires training and guidance to caseworkers and staff on therapeutic approaches and incident management. You will be key in helping clients navigate life transitions, improve their mental health, and achieve their goals while waiting for visa decisions.
To be successful, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology with registration or eligibility for registration as a psychologist in Australia
- Clinical or forensic psychology experience with a strong understanding of clinical governance frameworks
- Experience working with CALD and diverse backgrounds
- Skilled collaborative work with multidisciplinary and external support agencies
- Experienced delivering flexible, client-focused interventions, including outreach and e-health
- Ability to implement client and family-centred approaches with cultural sensitivity towards diverse communities
