Teaching Assistant Role\

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about working with children and supporting their educational needs.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils with special educational needs to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

\Key Responsibilities:\

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with special educational needs.\
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to deliver tailored support.\
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic development.\
  • Support children's transition into Reception class and ensure a smooth integration into the school community.\
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of lessons, alongside the class teacher.\
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and physiotherapists, to provide comprehensive support.\
  • Record and report on pupil progress, highlighting areas of strength and weakness.\
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with parents/carers, ensuring they are fully informed and involved in their child's education.\
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.\
  • Be proactive in identifying and addressing any issues or concerns that may impact the provision of support.\
  • Participate in lesson observations, peer mentoring, and coaching to further develop your practice.\
  • Understand and respect the diverse needs of all learners, adapting your approach to meet individual requirements.\
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, sharing ideas and best practices to drive excellence in teaching and learning.\
  • Be willing to learn from experience and develop professionally through ongoing training and development.\
  • Operate within established protocols and procedures, adhering to school policies and guidelines at all times.\
  • Keep accurate records, including attendance, behavior, and progress notes.\

  • Support the classroom teacher in assessing student progress and setting goals.\
  • Assist the classroom teacher in the preparation and distribution of materials and resources.\
  • Support students during breaks, encouraging active participation in extracurricular activities.\
  • Support the SENCO in maintaining accurate records of student progress and communicating with parents.\
  • Develop strategies to engage students with SEN, promoting inclusivity and maximizing learning opportunities.\
  • Help teachers plan and implement differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.\
  • Use technology and other tools to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes.\
  • Monitor and assess student performance, adjusting instruction accordingly.\
  • Modify existing instructional materials to suit different learning styles and abilities.\
  • Identify areas where students require additional support and develop targeted interventions.\
  • Prepare and present reports to parents regarding their child's progress.\
  • Consult with parents regarding specific support required for their child.\
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt curricula for students with complex needs.\
  • Support students with personal care, medication administration, and first aid when necessary.\
  • Help maintain a safe and organized learning environment, promoting independence and responsibility among students.\
  • Collaborate with subject specialists to enrich student experiences and foster deep learning.\
  • Strengthen connections between home and school by fostering strong communication channels with families.\
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations and services to enhance student experiences.\
  • Explore innovative approaches to learning, considering current research and emerging trends in special education.\
  • Engage in peer observation and mentorship, sharing expertise and best practices to drive continuous improvement.\
  • Lead and participate in collaborative team efforts to enhance teaching and learning environments.\
  • Take ownership of developing own practice and seek feedback from colleagues and managers.\

  • Know and adhere to school policies on Confidentiality, Data Protection, and Equality and Diversity.\

  • Report incidents, accidents, and near-miss incidents promptly, following established protocols.\
  • Manage minor incidents, using restorative justice and de-escalation techniques when necessary.\
  • Document incidents, making detailed notes for future reference.\
  • Highlight key achievements and successes of the Teaching Assistant role.\
  • Gain recognition from senior management and external bodies for outstanding contributions to SEN.\
  • Provide insightful presentations and reports for School Governors, Heads of Department, and other stakeholders.\
  • Host seminars and workshops for colleagues, focusing on improving practices in SEN support.\
  • Accompany and support Teachers on visits to other schools, showcasing our SEN provision.\
  • Update the SEN department's handbook and procedural documents annually, ensuring compliance with national and local policies.\
  • Maintain accurate and reliable records of pupil progress, monitoring achievement against set targets.\
  • Host regular briefing sessions for staff on SEN matters.\
  • Enlist experts to share insights and strategic guidance on SEN provision.\
  • Enhance and update SEN and Disability Policy annually to include recommendations and suggestions.\
  • Introduce / Deploy new SEN strategies, making sure every child gets equal chance to succeed.\
  • Coordinate with Service Provider's on Inclusive Practice Strategies and Regular Review the Effectiveness.\
  • Champion National charity links awareness programs for autism, Dyslexia etc. to Staff and Students alike.\
  • Reporting and Providing Critical Analysis Progress Reports with Meaningful Recommendations to Senior Management and External Bodies.\
  • Maintaining Enthusiastic engagement & contribution throughout working hours.
