About the Role

We are seeking a medical expert to join our panel as a member of the Repatriation Medical Authority.

The successful candidate will contribute their expertise in medical science to the development of Statements of Principles for diseases, injuries, or deaths related to military service.

The authority comprises a Chairperson and four other members who are eminent medical or scientific experts. They work on a part-time basis and are appointed by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs for terms up to five years.

Key Responsibilities
  • To serve as a member of the authority, providing medical-scientific expertise to SOP development.
  • To collaborate with the Chairperson and other members to review and determine Statements of Principles based on current evidence.
  • To represent the authority in discussions with stakeholders and executive government as required.
  • To uphold high ethical standards and demonstrate intellectual rigour in governance and decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Registered medical practitioner or medical scientist with an outstanding academic record and extensive clinical or public health experience.
  • Expertise in psychiatry or musculoskeletal medicine and/or epidemiology is highly regarded.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management capabilities, and leadership skills are essential.

  • This is a part-time appointment with a term of up to five years.
  • The authority is supported by a Secretariat of legal, administrative, and research staff.
