Researcher in Ocean Science

We are seeking an exceptional researcher to join our team at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies. As a Research Associate in Oceanography and Climate Change, you will be part of a collaborative community making a difference for Tasmania and the world.

This is a full-time, 4.5-year fixed-term role based in Hobart, Tasmania. You will contribute to a high-impact research program investigating changes in ocean salinity and the Earth's water cycle - key to understanding the planet's hydrological response to climate change.

About the Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to shape national and global understanding of climate mitigation efforts and support decision-makers with robust scientific evidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on ocean salinity and its relation to the Earth's water cycle
  • Analyze climate model data sets and their application in ocean science
  • Develop expertise in coupled climate modelling and its relevance to oceanography
Requirements
  • A PhD or equivalent in physical oceanography or a related field
  • A strong record of research that has achieved international recognition
  • Experience in University post-graduate research supervision
  • Able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
