Community Mental Health Specialist for Older Adults

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Community Older Adult Mental Health Key Clinician to join our team at Northern Health Authority. As a key member of our Specialist Older Adult Consultation Service (SOACS), you will play a critical role in providing assessment, treatment, and coordination of care for older adults with complex mental health issues, frailty, and/or comorbidities in their own homes and residential aged care facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide brief and medium to long-term interventions, working closely with consumers, carers, and support systems to achieve positive recovery outcomes.
- Maintain a high standard of knowledge and skills in discipline-specific areas.
- Have practiced in a community mental health setting for more than two years, with recent community experience preferred.
- Excellent communication skills to support consumers in developing and utilizing strategies and treatment modalities, and accessing resources and support for enhanced recovery.
- Sound working knowledge of mental health for older adults, ability to negotiate and collaborate effectively, and capacity to work well within small teams and autonomously.
- Ability to prioritize risk and attend to crises appropriately.
- Occasional after-hours work may be required to facilitate admissions.
- A current driver's license is essential.
- Preference for previous work in Older Adult Mental Health.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues faced by older adults with a mental illness.
- Experience and good working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act.
- Proven ability and experience to work autonomously in a community Mental Health team.
- Registration as a Registered Nurse with a specialist mental health nursing qualification (or equivalent) or an allied Health mental health clinician equivalent.
