Defence and Veterans' Reform Leader

The Australian Government invites exceptional leaders to apply for the inaugural Defence and Veterans' Service Commissioner position.
This new, Non-corporate Commonwealth entity has been established in response to a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide. The Commission's purpose is to provide independent oversight and evidence-based advice to government on system reforms to improve suicide prevention and wellbeing outcomes for serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members.
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading and overseeing reform across the Defence ecosystem as the accountable authority of the Commission.
They will also exercise legislative powers and functions while upholding the independence and integrity of the Commission.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and oversee reform across the Defence ecosystem.
- Exercise legislative powers and functions while maintaining independence and integrity.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders.
- Provide independent, evidence-based advice to government on system reforms.
Expressions of interest are invited from eligible and suitably qualified persons. The successful applicant will be appointed as Defence and Veterans' Service Commissioner on a full-time basis for a period not exceeding five years.
