The role of a Consumer Peer Worker is to support the implementation and delivery of Mental Health Drug & Alcohol services. This includes working with MHDA teams to provide education to clinical staff, input into systemic issues, policy development, committee activities, projects and research.

Key responsibilities include providing support to people using MHDA services, connecting them to their preferred supports and services, and facilitating education for clinical staff. The role also involves receiving appropriate training, supervision and support to carry out duties effectively.

Essential skills and qualifications include holding a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or demonstrating willingness and commitment to obtain it. Additionally, personal experience using Mental Health and/or Drug & Alcohol related services, along with knowledge of consumer led recovery principles and trauma informed care, are highly valued.
