General Surgery Trainee Position

The Eurobodalla Health Service is situated in the beautiful south coast of NSW, serving the Yuin Nation.

This Level 4 facility will provide a wider range of services than the existing Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals combined. It will include features like:

  • Paediatric and maternity beds
  • Special care nursery
  • Mental health beds
  • Education and training facilities
  • Simulation lab

As a General Surgical Unaccredited Trainee, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of general surgical inpatients, providing an on-call service for the Eurobodalla hospitals (Moruya and Batemans Bay).

You will work closely with experienced surgeons and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care. The position involves a good mix of elective and emergency operating with approximately 1,680 general operations performed annually.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing an on-call service for the Eurobodalla hospitals
  • Assisting in managing acute general surgical emergencies and elective and emergency operating lists and outpatient clinics
  • Rotating daily through being on-call

Requirements:

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
  • Demonstrated ability to complete rotations as allocated and required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment
  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to further self-education and professional development
  • At least four years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
